The Barge

On board Caroline you will find a relaxed atmosphere with a comfortable lounge and dining area and a well equipped galley (kitchen) where we will prepare meals of high quality. You will be able to relax on deck and watch the picturesque French landscape glide past at a serene 3-4 miles per hour.

The unique sound and rhythm of Carolines huge three-cylinder diesel engine and her displacement of more than 90 tons will give you a smooth journey without any seasickness - guaranteed!

The huge flowered sun deck is laid with a carpet and is also the best place to admire the gurgling waters in the famous oval locks. Enjoy relaxing on the sundeck with a cool drink or sit on the bench in front of the steering postion under a shady umbrella watching the wonderful french countryside passing by.

The three air-conditioned guest cabins aboard are spacious. There is one double-bed and two twin-bed cabins. Each cabin has a private bathroom with shower, wardrobes and shelves for your clothes. For cabin sizes please see the information page or click here.

With three double cabins why not invite friends or family to experience the wonder and beauty of a holiday on the Canal du Midi? And, by the way, we also speak your language.

Along the way you will be able to visit medieval villages, stroll through local markets or enjoy culinary delights in a local Auberge. Visit one of the many vineyards and taste the wonderful wines of the Languedoc. The Languedoc is the world´s largest wine producing area. The mild climate and the relaxing and friendly atmosphere will make your holidays unforgettable.

Caroline travels the Canal du Midi between Etang du Thau, Beziers and Carcassonne
The journey is the reward! Confucius said. It will not take long, till you will be caught by the special ambiance of the canal.

The friendly salutes from barge to barge, the old low bridges, which are often so narrow that it seems that the barge will not pass through, or the ancient locks only just big enough for Caroline to pass through.

Depending on our route, we will pass through many locks, some we will go up, some we pass going down. There may only be one lock or a flight of locks, two or three chambers leading into each other. But over and over again the landscape invites frequent halts.

You will travel through one of the most picturesque landscapes of Europe. Why not take a walk on the old, but well maintained towpath in the shade of the old plantane trees.. You might walk faster than Caroline?

On the canal there is no car traffic, nor hills or mountains, so you could use our bikes for an easy stress free ride on the towpath or cycle into the next village.
